Publisher's Description:

yRead2 - yRead will load a plain text (TXT) or HTML file and display it in a single-column, resizable window. Then it will read the file to you out loud, using human speech. You can even get voices for other languages. Use it to listen to ebooks, your own writing or any other piece of text. yRead now includes a catalogue screen for the online Gutenberg archive - it will retrieve the latest catalogue, show you a sorted list of all titles and allow you to pick, download and listen to any of them. yRead includes a translation table (see the help file). This enables you to build a series of phonetic spellings so that mis-pronounced words will come out correctly. This is a fairly dumb string replace, so if you replace 'e' with 'x' you'll havx to livx with the consxquxncxs. Free software from the author of the Hal Spacejock series.

Annoyed

This is a cool program however the person reading is so annoying that I can't stand it. I wanted this program to read back my own writing, but the voice is terribe and I can't listen to it for more than a paragraph. There should be a selection of voices and styles of reading... like Mac offers. Because of this, I will not use this program. thanks anyways.

Author's Response:
By default it uses the free Microsoft voices and speech engine. If you want them to sound really clear you need to buy better ones (I suggest the AT&T Natural Voices - available from AT&T themselves.)

Actually it was yread3 that worked

We didn't manage to get much out of yRead2 but yRead3 is BRILLIANT! well done on producing such a good piece of software. If you have a feedback form like this for yRead3 then it would get good all excellent on all counts.
